Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday", the day before Ash Wednesday, and is the final day of Carnival. Carnival begins 12 days after Christmas, or Twelfth Night, on January 6 and ends on Mardi Gras, which is always 46 days before Easter. |

The Krewe of Barkus & Meoux's Mardi Paw parade is a chance for festive pets to celebrate Mardi Gras. Animal royalty are chosen in the royalty raffle. Krewe of Aesclepius 'Toast to the End of Mardi Gras

Top of the Texas St. Bridge, connecting downtown Shreveport with Bossier City. The annual 'Bridge Closing Ceremony' is held on Fat Tuesday to mark the close of the Mardi Gras season and the beginning of Lent. The bridge is closed to traffic for one hour as visitors make their way to the top. Final toasts are given by area Kings, Queens, & Captains followed by Aesclepius royals.
